We provide educational training for contemporary dancers. The length of the education is 3 years. DANCEWORKS berlin, Berlin's oldest dance school focusing on contemporary dance, offers you an excellent training in dance and choreography plus a solid and sustainable professional network. Changing international guest choreographers are enriching your training. Our students get the vocational qualification "stage dancer“ after the successful completion of the program.

The focus of this dance training lies in practical experience: You will learn techniques of classical ballet and contemporary dance. Established techniques like Graham, Limon, Cunningham as well as a solid knowledge of ballet are part of your training. Choreography and repertoire are important subjects. The theoretical part of training covers the subjects history of dance and dance theory, anatomy, dance and cultural management as well as theater law. For the 3 years, DANCEWORKS berlin's education supports the development and diversity of your personal artistic potential.

Contemporary dance becomes a model of artistic innovative capacity. It does not see itself as being based on one technique or aesthetic form only, but draws on diversity. It seeks crossing lines between the arts and frequently breaks with existing forms. The open structure of the training curriculum deliberately seeks the non-set way and thus offers the active opportunity to set itself apart from linear demands that exist in classical and modern dance.

Training enables you to learn the different dance techniques including their approaches to movement and to examine them. In the final semester all the students will be prepared for auditions. There are numerous opportunities to gain stage experience during the dance training and develop these abilities further during the three-year program. Stage experience and experience in the choreographic practices will be promoted while working at our school. Our teachers, as well as established guest choreographers such as Jan Pusch support our school performances.

The dance education is recognized as supplementary education by the Senate of Berlin with the possibility of receiving national or international student support and is frequently assessed by ”ZAV Künstlervermittlung TANZ” (”ZAV Placement Service for Performing Arts DANCE”), a part of the International Placement Services (ZAV) and belonging to the German Federal Employment Agency (BA).

The admission to our 3-year education requires an audition where your artistic talent will be assessed by our faculty. The audition covers ballet, contemporary dance, improvisation and repertoire. Afterwards there is a short interview. Please send us a CV with your current dance experience and two passport photos (5 x 4 cm). Please do not send dance photos.

The school's principal and artistic director is Lars Anderstam. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to write an email to
